Valentine's Day Red Cake recipe
Red velvet cake is a textbook romantic dessert choice, and with good reasonit's one of the most rich and moist cakes one could enjoy.
Ingredients:
½ cup unsalted butter, softened
1 ½ cups sugar
2 eggs
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
2 tablespoons brewed coffee
1 tablespoon red food coloring
1 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
Frosting, for finishing
Preparation Instructions:
1) Preheat oven to 325°F. Grease and flour two 8-inch round cake pans.
2) Cream butter in a large bowl until fluffy; add sugar and beat until smooth. Add eggs, one at a time, and beat well. Add cocoa, coffee, and coloring; beat to mix. Set aside.
3) Whisk buttermilk and baking soda together in a small bowl; set aside.
4) Sift flour and salt together in a small bowl; add to creamed butter mixture alternately with the buttermilk mixture, beating gently with each addition.
5) Pour batter into prepared cake pans. Bake 35 to 40 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the middle of each cakes comes out clean. Cool in pans 15 minutes; remove cake from pans and cool completely.
6) Spread frosting between layers of cake and over the surface. Slice and serve.
